Size Guide
Effective from Oct. 16, 2026
Which size should I order?
Measure a sweater you already own and compare it with the garment measurements on the listing’s chart, starting with the bust, and on the styles a maker marks as running small, follow that maker’s advice to go 1-2 sizes up.
Garment measurements for every listing
Every chart on the site describes the sweater itself rather than a body, in inches with centimeters beside them, and the bust figure is the distance all the way around the sweater at the chest. All charts give the bust, all but one give the body length, with MFT-CD-006 measured as back length instead, most give the sleeve, and some add the shoulder width, while the chart image also appears as the last photo in each listing’s gallery.
A tape measure method for a sweater you own
Lay a sweater that fits the way you like on a table and smooth out the wrinkles with no pulling. For the bust, take its width straight across just under the armholes and multiply by two; for the length, start on the shoulder line right beside the collar and go straight down to the hem; and for the sleeve, go from where the sleeve joins the body to the end of the cuff.
A worked comparison for one cardigan
A sweater that measures 20.5 inches across, which doubles to 41 inches, sits closest to the size M of the tie-front cardigan MFT-CD-008 at 40.9 inches (104 cm), while the size L at 42.5 inches (108 cm) would add about 1.5 inches of room. The oversized quarter zip MFT-QZ-003, by contrast, measures 47.2 inches at the bust even in size S and its maker still suggests going 1-2 sizes up, so on that listing the maker’s note and the length deserve as much attention as the bust.
Bust ranges for the three cuts
The same size letter covers very different widths from one style to the next, because the catalog runs from slim and fitted cuts to oversized ones, as the size M figures below show.
| Cut | Narrowest size M at the bust | Widest size M at the bust |
|---|---|---|
| Turtlenecks | 35.4 in (90 cm), MFT-TN-001 | 50.4 in (128 cm), MFT-TN-003 |
| Cardigans | 34.6 in (88 cm), MFT-CD-010 | 48 in (122 cm), MFT-CD-004 and MFT-CD-006 |
| Quarter zips | 39.4 in (100 cm), MFT-QZ-002 | 48.8 in (124 cm), MFT-QZ-003 |
Runs-small notes for specific listings
The makers of MFT-TN-002, MFT-TN-004, MFT-CD-004, MFT-QZ-002, MFT-QZ-003, MFT-QZ-004 and MFT-QZ-006 say those sweaters run small and suggest 1-2 sizes up, and each of those listings shows the note next to its chart so the advice is visible before you choose.
Stretch ratings for each knit
Listings give stretch on the maker’s five-step scale of None, Micro, Low, Medium and High, and a few listings carry no rating because the maker did not publish one, so a Micro-stretch cardigan such as MFT-CD-010 needs a closer size match than a High-stretch style such as MFT-CD-006.
Tolerances for knitted garments
Knits are measured by hand, so the makers allow a margin: 0.5-1 inch (1.3-2.5 cm) on most charts, 1-3 cm on MFT-TN-005, MFT-CD-002, MFT-CD-005 and MFT-QZ-008, and as much as 3-5 cm on MFT-CD-010, whose maker measured each size by hand.
Sizes from S to 3XL for the catalog
Sizes run from S to 3XL across the catalog, although each style offers only part of that range, so the size menu on a listing shows exactly which sizes that sweater comes in, from S-L on many cardigans to S-3XL on MFT-QZ-009.
A 2-inch threshold for sizing complaints
A measurement that strays from the listing’s chart by more than 2 inches (5 cm) counts as not as described and is returned at no cost to you, while a sweater that matches its chart but does not suit you is a change-of-mind case, with the postage paid by you, as the Refund and Returns Policy explains.
